Jim Carrey can sing and dance. While he doesn’t have an extensive list of singles that he has released himself, Carrey is an accredited artist on four songs: ‘Cuban Pete’, ‘Somebody to Love’, ‘Grinch 2000’ and ‘Cold Dead Hand’. He additionally has writing credits on one song, ‘Heaven Down Here’.

Do you want to learn more about the films Jim Carrey is seen singing or dancing in, including the films that have been swept into the past and forgotten about? Keep reading, this one’s for you.

Once Bitten (1985)

Everyone who knows Jim Carrey will know that he didn’t make his breakthrough until the mid-90s, but this doesn’t mean that he wasn’t starring in notable films before then.

About ten years before his breakthrough, Jim Carrey starred in the American teen comedy Once Bitten (1985) starring Jim Carrey, Lauren Hutton and Karen Kopins. Starring as Mark Kendall, the naive schoolboy, Carrey’s character is seduced by a vampire in a nightclub.

As can be expected, since they’re at a Halloween school dance, there is a dance off between Mark’s girlfriend, Robin (Karen Kopins) and the sultry Vampire Countess (Lauren Hutton).

In this clip, you can see Carrey dance, effortlessly yet humorously performing the air guitar, later moving on to shimmying on the dancefloor between the two women fighting for his attention. This is only a small snippet of what Carrey has under his belt with regards to his undeniable dancing talents.

The Mask (1994)

Nine years after appearing in Once Bitten, Carrey landed a role in the 1994 superhero comedy as Stanley Ipkiss, a character who starts off as a bank clerk but as the film progresses, he gains superpowers and is eventually targeted by villains who can’t wait to get their hands on the mask Stanley possesses which provides him with superpowers.

In The Mask, you get to see Carrey perform a pretty spectacular dancing scene which is arguably one of his best dancing scenes. Technically, the dancing scene is not completely real, it’s dramatized for effect but it’s clear that Carrey knows how to put on a show and entertain an audience.

All things considered, the dancing scene in The Mask is absolutely ridiculous but it’s one that’ll draw you in and make you laugh because it’s that random and silly.

Singing Stints

It isn’t always agreed upon that Carrey can sing, with Robin Wheeler from Riverfront Times hoping he sticks to karaoke instead of competing with actors who can “actually” sing.

Nonetheless, on YouTube you’ll find a plethora of results where Jim Carrey will be singing. He mostly produces covers of songs that have already been released adding his own touch to it. The star has appeared on a variety of talk shows and has had an uncountable number of interviews where he has displayed his true singing abilities.

In the 2008 film Yes Man where Carrey starred as Carl Allen, a banker who leads a downright depressing life where he’d choose to stay home and watch all the DVDs in the world over socializing out at a bar or restaurant with his friends and coworkers. Eventually, as the title might suggest, Allen challenges himself to say “yes” to everything to see how it would change his life.

As the film progresses, you get a glimpse of Carrey’s singing abilities as he sings ‘Jumper’ by Third Eye Blind from inside his apartment to a suicidal man who’s about to jump off a tall building.
