The classic song was released way back in 2004 and it managed to bring Ciara to a very high star level! However, it turns out that ‘Goodies’ was almost not hers as it was nearly given to none other than Britney Spears!

Ciara revealed this detail so many years later, stressing that she ‘would’ve fought tooth and nail’ to stop that song from being given to the fellow songstress!

And that makes sense because that song went straight to the top of the Billboard Hot 100 chart, keeping that position for weeks and jumpstarting her successful career in the music industry!

While on Level Up Radio with Ciara on Apple Music Hits, the celeb opened up about how that almost did not happen because her label, Jive Records, was seriously thinking of giving ‘Goodies’ to the ‘Pop Princess’ instead despite the fact that Ciara and other musicians had written the song in collaboration.

Apparently, writer or not, Ciara was required to audition for it!

‘I had to reaudition again, to be picked up and to be made a priority on the label. I did that, had a showcase, rocked it. Okay, boom, check,’ Ciara recalled feeling confident about her chances.

However, she had no idea ‘that behind the scenes, there was a conversation about this song being potentially taken from me and given to an artist like Britney Spears, who was on the same roster as me. I knew that it was a very, very special record.’

Ciara stressed that if she knew about their conversations, she would have fought for that song to go to her no matter what ‘because it’s a record that I actually was a part of creating. This was the very first song that I put out into the universe. My first song, and by God’s grace, it also was a number one song, and it lasted on the Billboard charts for eight weeks. It was just kind of surreal to see that my dream was coming true.’
