The man accused of murdering his wife and daughter with a kitchen knife in the northern suburbs of Melbourne earlier this year will have his case fast-tracked to the Victorian Supreme Court.
Prabhal Sharma, 40, is accused of murdering his wife Poonam and their daughter Vanessa at their home in Mill Park in January this year.
In the Melbourne Magistrates Court on Friday, Mr Sharma’s defence said they were exploring the defence of mental impairment.
Raphael di Vietri, for Sharma, said they were preparing a report by a forensic psychiatrist.
Mr di Vietri successfully applied to have the matter fast-tracked to the Supreme Court, where a directions hearing will be staged on August 12.
The magistrate entered a plea of not guilty of not guilty on behalf of Mr Sharma, who appeared briefly from Barwon Prison.
