The Project: Carrie Bickmore weighs in on Anthony Albanese Botox rumour

May 2024 · 3 minute read

The Project host Carrie Bickmore has weighed in on rumours the Prime Minister has had Botox.

Despite taking on the pressures of the top job, Anthony Albanese has recently looked more refreshed than ever.

In a recent meeting with Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida, Mr Albanese’s complexion seemed noticeably smoother-skinned.

A newspaper article speculated on whether the PM’s stress-free features were down to “Botox fillers or just clean living”.

On Wednesday night’s episode of The Project, Bickmore and co-host Rachel Corbett weighed in on the issue and compared two photos of Mr Albanese, one supposedly post-transformation.

But Corbett wasn’t convinced.

“I don’t think he looks different in those photos side-by-side there. He looks exactly the same,” she said.

“I would not have said, ‘There is a man who’s had Botox.’

“Also, let the man have a glow-up,” she said.

Bickmore also doubted the PM had opted for injections to lessen wrinkles.

“If he has, he’s got to go back and ask for a better job because he looks the same,” she said.

The host asked Corbett if she “cared” that Albanese may have had work.

‘Not really,” said Corbett.

Fellow host Hamish Macdonald also doubted Mr Albanese had received the Botox shots.

Fresh face sparks rumour mill

Speaking on Nova FM’s Fitzy and Wippa program on Wednesday morning, Mr Albanese was asked straight up if he’d had any help in the freshening up department

“Have you had Botox and how many fillers have you had Prime Minister?’’

The Prime Minister then suggested that anyone who thought he had time to inject Botox into his face was possibly injecting the toxin in a non-prescribed area.

“Seriously, I think whoever wrote that article is having Botox in the wrong place,’’ the Prime Minister laughed.

The media interrogation then turned to Mr Albanese’s weight-loss journey, after he lost over 15kg in the lead-up to the election.

“For anybody listening right there [who] might be carrying a couple of kilos. What was your one tip or secret that you had to the weight loss?’’ he was asked.

“Don’t eat the bread,’’ the Prime Minister replied.

“I just had two boiled eggs for breakfast. It keeps you going to lunchtime.

“Stopping eating in between meals is the big thing.”

Mr Albanese said while largely giving up alcohol was important for weight-loss, he still indulged from time to time.

“I get to have a beer every now and then. Both light and heavy,’’ he said.

“I have the odd hot chip and all of that. Not be too religious about it. It took a long period. It was over 18 months. But the real motivation, I don’t recommend this, was having a near life-ending car crash.

“And that was a real wake-up call to get fit and get healthy. It’s worked. I feel much better for it and I just feel much better in the morning but much better throughout the day.”
